Russian Foreign Intelligence Service Director: "Okhotnik" and "Poseidon" Make Russians Proud and Admiring of Russia's Nuclear Industry
The head of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service, Sergey Naryshkin, stated that the "Okhotnik" nuclear-powered cruise missile and the "Poseidon" underwater vehicle make Russians proud and admiring of the Russian nuclear industry.
On October 31, Naryshkin made a speech at Rosatom. During his meeting with the company's general director Alexei Likhachev, he presented newly declassified historical documents from the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service regarding the Soviet nuclear program to the latter. The declassification of these documents coincided with the 80th anniversary of the birth of the Russian nuclear industry.
Sputnik quoted Naryshkin as saying: "We recognize the scale and significance of the tasks you are solving - whether in Russia or abroad. We admire your successes and achievements, of course, and we also watch and listen with pride and admiration to the achievements that the whole world knew last week. I am referring to 'Okhotnik' and [Poseidon]."
Earlier, Russian President Putin stated that the tests of the "Okhotnik" cruise missile, which is powered by a nuclear propulsion system and has unlimited range, have been completed. This missile has shown strong capabilities in bypassing air defense systems. The Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, Valery Gerasimov, reported to the Russian President that the cruise missile flew 14,000 kilometers, and this is not the limit.
President Putin pointed out that Russia also tested the "Poseidon" submarine. Putin first publicly disclosed the development of the "Poseidon" submarine nuclear in his 2018 address to the Federal Assembly. He stated that this unmanned submarine can carry conventional and nuclear weapons, enabling it to strike various targets, including aircraft carrier groups, coastal defense works, and infrastructure.
