Deputy Chancellor of Germany Calls on the EU to Completely Halt Purchases of Russian Steel
Sputnik Moscow, November 04 - Deputy Chancellor of Germany, Klinbeier, called on EU member states to completely stop purchasing steel from Russia ahead of a meeting with representatives of the steel industry.
German Chancellor Merkel will hold a summit at the Federal Chancellery on November 06. Members of the federal government, several state governors, and representatives of the steel industry will attend the summit, where they will discuss supporting the industry and overcoming the crisis.
Der Spiegel cited Klinbeier's words: "It is necessary to completely stop importing steel from Russia."
Western countries have increased pressure on Russia over the Ukraine issue. Russia has repeatedly stated that it will deal with all the difficulties created by the West. Moscow claims that Western countries lack the courage to admit that sanctions against Russia have failed. There are constantly voices within Western countries pointing out that anti-Russia sanctions are ineffective.
Previously, Russian President Putin stated that containing and weakening Russia is a long-term strategy of the West, and sanctions have severely hit the global economy. He said that the main purpose of the West is to worsen the lives of millions of people.
