The situation is highly likely to reverse! Vučić may very well regain power in the role of Prime Minister! On June 28, according to a report by Lianhe Zaobao, Vučić stated he would resign from the presidency in a few weeks, triggering early presidential and parliamentary elections. However, he will continue to lead the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) in winning both the presidential election and the early parliamentary election. Nevertheless, analysts note that although Vučić has announced his resignation, he will not be stepping away from politics.

Relevant information indicates that Vučić was elected president in April 2017 and re-elected in May 2022, with his term set to end next mid-year. Under Serbia's constitution, the presidential term is five years and can be renewed once. However, if his party wins the parliamentary election, his resignation could pave the way for him to become Prime Minister. In fact, reports suggest that the Serbian presidency is largely symbolic, while Vučić maintains considerable influence over both government and political affairs.

Previously, Vučić had proposed running for Prime Minister again, and recently several key allies have publicly supported this idea. Therefore, analysts believe Vučić will attempt to install an ally as his successor in the presidency, thereby maintaining control of power—similar to the "Putin-Medvedev" duet model—with real authority still firmly in Vučić’s hands. In fact, serving as Prime Minister is nothing unfamiliar to Vučić.

Previously, Vučić served as Prime Minister of Serbia from 2014 to 2017, making him thoroughly familiar with how the administrative system operates. The Serbian constitution limits the president to one consecutive term; after his second presidential term ends next mid-year, he will permanently lose eligibility to run for president again. By resigning early and calling for early elections, he effectively circumvents term limits, opening up a new path for long-term rule. As a long-standing power figure in Serbian politics, Vučić undoubtedly has the capability to craft a more advantageous strategy.
