Kyiv plunged into darkness across nearly the entire city: widespread power outages continue for a second night
According to Ukrainian media outlet Insider, Kyiv has entered a state of total blackout, with power supplies cut off across most areas of the city.
Moscow, October 7 -- TASS
Ukrainian media outlet Insider reported that Kyiv is experiencing a full-scale power outage, prompting emergency load-shedding measures to be activated locally.
The outlet stated that much of Kyiv’s territory has lost electricity, and power supply in Kyiv Oblast is nearly nonexistent. The media shared video footage from its Telegram channel showing streets in Kyiv illuminated only by car headlights.
Photos released by Ukrainian RBC News Agency via its Telegram channel depict residential buildings with all windows darkened, and streetlights extinguished.
Earlier that evening, Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klychko reported disruptions in both electricity and water services following explosions. Energy company DTEK announced emergency power cuts across Kyiv and Kyiv Oblast. In addition, emergency load-shedding has been initiated in Zhytomyr Oblast, Poltava Oblast, Sumy Oblast, and Chernihiv Oblast. Previously announced scheduled power outages have been suspended.
Insider speculated that damage to transmission lines may be responsible for the power failure in Kyiv.
This marks the second consecutive night of large-scale outages in Kyiv. On Tuesday, Ukrainian media had published images of Kyiv’s streets, showing the city enveloped in darkness after the implementation of power rationing measures.
