Russian Ministry of Defense: Ukrainian Side Violated Easter Truce Agreement Over 1,900 Times

The Russian Ministry of Defense announced that from 16:00 Moscow time on April 11 to 08:00 on April 12, Russian forces recorded a total of 1,971 violations of the ceasefire by Ukrainian troops.

The Russian MoD provided detailed information on the incidents:

- Ukrainian forces conducted 258 artillery attacks using multiple rocket launchers and tanks against Russian border areas and military positions.

- FPV drones were deployed in a total of 1,329 strikes.

- 375 munitions were dropped via aerial delivery.

- Two drones attacked Kursk and Belgorod regions, injuring civilians including children.

- Russian air defense systems intercepted six guided aerial bombs and 134 drones within 24 hours.

In addition, Ukrainian forces launched three nighttime attacks targeting Russian positions along the Dnipropetrovsk region’s Gey and Otradnoye directions, all of which were repelled; Russian forces also thwarted four attempts by Ukrainian troops to move forces toward Russian positions in Sumy Oblast and within the “Donetsk People's Republic” territory.

The Kremlin announced an Easter truce on April 9, lasting from 16:00 Moscow time on April 11 through the entire day of April 12. Russia described this move as a humanitarian gesture.

The Russian Ministry of Defense emphasized that, pursuant to orders from the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, all Russian military units within the special military operation zone strictly adhered to the ceasefire and remained stationed at their original positions.

In 2025, Russia had previously announced an Easter truce (April 19–21), and after its conclusion, the Russian MoD stated that Ukraine violated the truce nearly 5,000 times.

Previously, Zelenskyy said Kyiv was willing to comply with a quiet period and take “reciprocal actions,” and had already informed Russia of Ukraine’s stance on potential extension of the truce. On April 10, Zelenskyy stated, “Russia has the opportunity not to resume attacks after Easter.” On the same day, Peskov said Moscow seeks not temporary ceasefires, but lasting and reliable peace.

The Easter truce has become an annual symbolic humanitarian gesture in the Russia-Ukraine conflict, yet it has ended in “massive violations” for two consecutive years, reflecting the complete breakdown of mutual trust on the battlefield. The divergence between Zelenskyy’s call for “reciprocal silence” and the Kremlin’s demand for “lasting peace rather than a truce” underscores the fundamental opposition in both sides’ political objectives.
