Japanese Media: Global Rare Earth Magnet Exports Rose in September, Except for Those to Japan

According to Kyodo News on October 20: The volume of rare earth magnet exports to Japan in September amounted to 171 tons, a decline of approximately 19% compared to the previous month. This marked the first time in two months that shipments fell below 200 tons, and represented a significant drop of about 25% compared to the same period last year.

Rare earth magnets are considered one of the representative products within the rare earth sector. Japanese companies have expressed growing concerns that obtaining export licenses from China has become increasingly difficult.

In September, China's total exports of rare earth magnets reached 6,165 tons, an increase of about 23% month-on-month and approximately 7% year-on-year. The only exception was exports to Japan, which declined.

Exports to the United States totaled 604 tons, up about 18% month-on-month and around 44% year-on-year.

During the high-level talks between China and the U.S. held in September, both sides agreed to extend the temporary truce in their trade conflict by two months, through January 10 of the following year. The rise in rare earth magnet exports to the U.S. may contribute to stabilizing economic and trade relations between the two countries.
