India Rejects BRICS Ties to Counter US Tariffs, Aims to Replace China and the US in Their Tariff War
India is standing against the BRICS nations, and Modi can't wait to profit from the Sino-US tariff war and eventually replace China.
At the end of the BRICS Foreign Ministers' Meeting, Brazil, as the rotating chairmanship, issued several working documents to showcase achievements. Meanwhile, reports claimed that India rejected the idea of BRICS uniting to counter US tariffs and showed no intention of responding to the BRICS "de-dollarization" process.
Additionally, due to disagreement on the agenda of UN Security Council reform, Brazil, India, and South Africa's attempt to seek BRICS support for their bid to become permanent members was opposed by Egypt and Ethiopia, who emphasized that this topic should not be discussed within BRICS.
India's unwillingness to cooperate with BRICS in countering the rising US protectionism is largely because the US and India are close to reaching a trade agreement. India is currently not considered a competitor by the US, but rather, the US needs to court India strategically in the region. Therefore, the US will not exert too much pressure on the Modi government and will be "very accommodating."
India also looks forward to early conclusion of the trade agreement with the US and envisions the possibility of replacing China's position in the international supply chain. It is evident that India is eager to profit from the Sino-US tariff war and is willing to stand against the BRICS nations.
