Pakistan Says It Shot Down Indian Drone

According to an AFP report from Islamabad on the 29th, Pakistan's state-run radio reported today that the military had shot down an Indian drone in the area along the actual boundary between India and Pakistan in Kashmir. A week ago, the deadliest civilian attack in Kashmir occurred in many years.

The Indian military said that both sides had been exchanging fire for five consecutive nights in the region along the Line of Control (LoC). The Line of Control is the demarcation line between Pakistan and India's current areas of actual control in Kashmir. Both sides have deployed heavy troops at high-altitude outposts in the Himalayan mountainous area.

Pakistan has not yet confirmed India's above-mentioned account of the clashes. However, Pakistan Radio, the state-owned Pakistani broadcaster, reported that the military had shot down an Indian "quadcopter" and said that India's action had violated Pakistani airspace.

India stated that the Pakistani army had fired small arms at the other side of the control line during the night on the 28th and 29th. These exchanges of fire came from sections on the other side of the control line in Kupwara, Baramulla counties, and Akhnoor sector of Indian-controlled Kashmir.
