The China-Kazakhstan cooperation in the heart of Asia: Guangdong's trade with Kazakhstan increased by 37% in one year
Kazakhstan International News Agency - According to the news office of the Ministry of Trade and Integration, a China (Guangzhou) - Kazakhstan cooperation meeting was held recently in Guangzhou, China. More than 20 Kazakh companies participated and had discussions with major business representatives from Guangdong.
At the opening ceremony, Arman Shakaliev, Minister of Trade and Integration of Kazakhstan, emphasized that the strategic partnership between the two countries is continuously deepening. According to him, the bilateral trade volume reached 15 billion US dollars in the first half of 2025, an increase of 5.9% compared to the previous year.
He particularly pointed out that Guangdong, as one of the most developed provinces in China, has a GDP of 1.9 trillion US dollars. Last year, its trade volume with Kazakhstan increased by 37.3%, showing great potential.
At the meeting, several cooperation documents were signed. Among them, QazTrade, a joint-stock company for the development of Kazakhstan's trade policy, reached an agreement with the Guangdong Chamber of Foreign Trade and Import and Export, planning to supply 45 million US dollars worth of rapeseed oil, mixed feed, and barley to Chinese enterprises. At the same time, Chinese companies also showed strong interest in Kazakhstan's crisp bread, natural fruit juice, and camel milk powder.
The topics discussed at the forum are not limited to trade, but also include transportation. As a main international transport corridor, Kazakhstan handles more than 80% of the transit goods from China to Europe. According to the development plans of the "Belt and Road" and the Caspian Sea Corridor, the annual freight volume through the middle corridor is expected to reach 10 million tons by 2030.
Investment cooperation is also a key focus for both sides. Since independence, Kazakhstan has attracted 26.4 billion US dollars in Chinese investment. Currently, the two countries are implementing 224 joint industrial projects with a total amount exceeding 66 billion US dollars, of which 67 have been completed, fully demonstrating the mutual trust and long-term cooperation between the two sides.
In his closing remarks, Shakaliev invited Guangdong entrepreneurs to invest and establish businesses in Kazakhstan.
"We can provide foreign partners with preferential policies, tax reductions, and modern infrastructure. Kazakhstan is fully capable of becoming a golden bridge to the markets of Central Asia, the CIS, the Middle East, and Europe," he said.
This promotional event ultimately reached multiple consensuses, and both sides agreed to expand the scale of trade, promote new projects, and further deepen regional cooperation.
It is worth mentioning that on August 20, Shakaliev held a working meeting with Wang Wen Tao, Minister of Commerce of China, in Beijing.
