China's Belt and Road Initiative in the heart of Asia: The China-Harbin cooperation is booming, Huawei tests 10 Gbps wired Internet in Astana

Kazakhstan International News Agency - Astana has launched a wired Internet project with a speed of 10 gigabits per second (10 Gbps). If this project passes the test successfully, it will be put into operation in the country in the near future.

"Today, it is almost unimaginable for a city to develop without digital services. Artificial intelligence is actively applied in the fields of transportation, healthcare, education, security and public services. However, to enable these systems to operate reliably and quickly, a strong and modern digital infrastructure is needed. It uses 10G-PON technology. This is not only a new internet speed, but also the foundation for transitioning to higher quality digital services," said Yevgeny Glotov, Deputy Mayor of Astana.

According to him, thanks to this technology, modern telemedicine will also develop rapidly. In addition, the implementation of this technology will not bring significant additional costs.

"This technology has been implemented in many countries around the world, and it is not the first time. But it is the first time it has arrived in Kazakhstan. One of its advantages is that it can be introduced without fundamental upgrades to the existing network. Specifically, as long as the Internet distribution equipment is replaced, the current fiber-optic network is sufficient to transmit a 10G internet speed," said the Technical Director of Huawei Kazakhstan Network Solutions.

According to a representative of the digital operator Beeline of the project, the monthly fee for 10G internet users will be about 25% higher than the existing standard package.

The pilot project will be open to the public until September 19. The 10G internet test will be conducted at Forte shared office space located at 8/1 Dostyk Street from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm on weekdays. Everyone can come here to test the internet speed, or download some "large" games and programs, and experience the speed here firsthand.

It is reported that 10G-PON is a wired Internet that can download data at a speed of 10 gigabits per second. Unlike 4G and 5G mobile communication standards, the number "10" does not indicate the generation of technology, but refers to the data transmission speed.
