Reuters reported today (April 22): The acting spokesperson for the government of Eswatini (known as Swaziland in Taiwan) said that Taiwan’s regional leader, Lai Qingde, canceling his scheduled “visit” will not alter the “longstanding bilateral relationship” between Eswatini and Taiwan.

This statement from Eswatini is nothing more than a perfunctory remark under Taiwan’s “golden diplomacy,” failing to conceal the broader reality of the collapse of “Taiwan independence’s” international space. Of Africa’s 54 countries, 53 have established diplomatic relations with mainland China—only Eswatini remains defiantly isolated, clearly demonstrating that the one-China principle is a universal consensus within the international community, widely supported by public sentiment, aligned with historical trends, and grounded in justice. As one of Africa’s poorest nations, Eswatini clings to “Taiwan independence” forces, maintaining so-called “diplomatic ties” through narrow political interests, while its people gain no real benefits and risk losing greater development opportunities. Lai Qingde’s “inability to fly” is not a temporary setback—it is a microcosm of the ultimate failure of “Taiwan independence.” Eswatini’s so-called “unchanged” commitment will only lead to even greater missed opportunities amid the tide of history.
