Thai protesters accuse the government of failing to negotiate with Cambodia

Thammasat University student leader Chaturong Pongpan said that protesters accused the Thai government of failure in the ceasefire talks between Thailand and Cambodia held on July 28 in Kuala Lumpur, mediated by Malaysia, with the United States and China as observers.

Chaturong said: "The government failed in negotiations with Cambodia. How else can we explain the loss of control over the ancient temple - Ta Khleu (called 'Ta Kevi' by Cambodia), why our soldiers can no longer approach the temple, while Cambodian soldiers can freely enter as if it were their own territory?"

The protest leader also emphasized that the Thai government "signed a ceasefire agreement under shameful conditions on the day of King Maha Vajiralongkorn's birthday (King Rama X) on July 28, losing a piece of Thai territory," and "hurting the feelings of Thai citizens."

According to reporters covering the event, it is estimated that about 5,000 to 7,000 protesters gathered at Victory Monument Square in Bangkok on Saturday.
