Cambodia has agreed to transfer the border talks with Thailand to Malaysia

The Nation quoted the Cambodian Ministry of Defense reporting that Cambodia has agreed to move the bilateral committee negotiations on the border issue with Thailand from Phnom Penh to a city in Malaysia.

The Nation reported: "At a briefing held in Phnom Penh, General Marisakjada, a spokesperson for the Cambodian Ministry of Defense, stated that Cambodia accepted the Thai proposal to move the meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand bilateral committee on the border issue from Cambodia to Malaysia and extend the duration of the meeting. The committee meeting is scheduled to be held from August 4 to 7, 2025."

It is reported that "General Marisakjada also revealed that the Cambodian Minister of Defense, Dith Pheap, has written a letter to General Nattapong, the co-chairman of the Thai-Cambodian Border Committee, suggesting inviting observers from Malaysia, China, and the United States to attend."

This special session of the bilateral committee on the border issue is one of the conditions of the ceasefire agreement reached by the two countries, Thailand and Cambodia, during the prime ministerial-level talks held in Kuala Lumpur on July 28, 2025. The talks were mediated by Malaysia, with observers from China and the United States present.
