White House confirms consideration of 45-day ceasefire proposal with Iran; Israel says it hit Iran's largest petrochemical complex

AFP, Washington, June 6 — The White House confirmed today that a proposal for a 45-day ceasefire with Iran is under consideration, although President Trump (Donald Trump) has not yet approved it, and the conflict continues.

U.S. media reports indicate that a proposed 45-day truce in the Middle East war, put forward by mediators, has been received in Washington.

However, a White House official told AFP: "This is just one of many ideas being considered; the president has not approved it. 'Operation Epic Fury' is ongoing."

The official added that the president will provide further details on the situation regarding the conflict during a press briefing at 1 p.m. (17:00 GMT).

AFP, Tehran, June 6 — Israel conducted airstrikes on Iran's largest petrochemical complex today, while also claiming to have killed the commander of Iran's elite special forces unit, the Quds Force, during an attack on Tehran yesterday.

Israel stated it had attacked the largest petrochemical facility located in Assaluyeh along Iran's Persian Gulf coast. Local media reported multiple explosions at the site.

Defense Minister Israel Katz said the facility accounts for about 50% of Iran's national petrochemical production, with an output valued in the "tens of billions of dollars."

The facility operator later said the situation was "under control" and damage assessment was underway.

Israel's military also stated that during yesterday’s strike on Tehran, they killed the commander of the Quds Force’s special operations unit.

The Quds Force is the overseas operations branch of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps.

In a statement, the Israeli military said the Israeli Air Force struck Tehran yesterday, eliminating Asghar Bagheri, who had served as commander of the Quds Force’s special operations unit since 2019. Bagheri held several senior positions within the Quds Force in recent years and had "participated in global attacks targeting Israelis and Americans."

Another Israeli airstrike today also killed a high-ranking Revolutionary Guards commander. According to the Associated Press, the series of strikes launched by Israel and the United States against Iran today resulted in over 25 deaths.

Iran also launched drone and missile attacks today against Israel, Kuwait, and the United Arab Emirates. Yesterday, one Iranian missile struck a residential building in Haifa, Israel, and rescue personnel today confirmed the recovery of four bodies from the rubble of the destroyed structure.
