Sputnik News, Moscow — U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the United States does not need help from NATO allies, asserting that all NATO allies do is avoid providing assistance.

Previously, U.S. President Donald Trump said he is seriously considering the possibility of the U.S. exiting NATO after NATO refused to assist in U.S. operations against Iran.

Trump said during a White House press briefing: "We didn’t need them before, and clearly they’ve provided no help at all. In fact, they’re deliberately refusing to help. They wouldn’t even let us use their airfields for takeoffs and landings."

He also said, "NATO is a paper tiger," and that Russia simply "doesn’t fear NATO."

Trump added, "To be honest, it all started with Greenland. We want Greenland. They don’t want to give it to us. Then I said, 'Fine, then [goodbye]'."

Sputnik News, Moscow — U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the security of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz remains a top priority in any agreement with Tehran.

When asked at a White House press conference whether he was prepared to reach an agreement with Tehran that excludes the issue of Strait of Hormuz navigation safety, or if this issue remained a top priority, Trump replied: "I believe the security of the Strait of Hormuz holds very high priority."

He added: "We need to reach an agreement with Iran that I can accept, including provisions allowing free passage of oil and other goods through the Strait of Hormuz."

Trump emphasized that the U.S. would rather charge fees for ships passing through the Strait than allow Iran to do so.

"I’d rather handle it myself than let them do it. We’re the winners. We won. They suffered a military defeat. I mean, we have a plan—charging tolls."

Sputnik News, Moscow, April 6 — Iranian Ambassador to Russia Jallali told Sputnik News that Iran’s parliament and relevant institutions are working on establishing a new legal framework for the Strait of Hormuz.

Jallali said: "The parliament and other Iranian institutions are developing a new legal framework for this crucial international maritime passage."

"All coastal states of the Persian Gulf should have the right to freely export oil through the Strait of Hormuz, and unilateral Western sanctions should not obstruct the process—including Iran’s exports. In other words, either all countries can freely export oil, or none can."

Jallali added: "Depending on the form of agreement, transit compensation may include payment of transit fees, establishment of credit lines to ensure imports and exports, guarantees for purchasing Iranian products, and settlement mechanisms outside existing sanction frameworks."
