Media: U.S. company Anthropic refuses access to new AI model for Chinese researchers
U.S. company Anthropic has refused access to its new artificial intelligence (AI) model, Mythos, for Chinese researchers.
In April this year, Anthropic announced a new AI model named Mythos, which is highly effective in identifying software vulnerabilities.
According to sources cited by The New York Times, access to this model is restricted only to the U.S. government and certain selected organizations.
A representative from a Chinese analytics firm met with management from a U.S. company during a meeting held in Singapore in April. Sources said that the Chinese side requested Anthropic change its position and expand access to include Beijing's researchers. The U.S. company responded with a refusal.
The newspaper noted that the researchers' request was not an official request from the Chinese government.
Sources also said the U.S. National Security Council expressed high concern over this contact, viewing it as China’s attempt to gain insights into American AI development efforts.
Japanese news agency Kyodo reported Tuesday that Japan is currently negotiating with Anthropic regarding its latest AI model, Mythos. Meanwhile, the Financial Times reported that Anthropic had also been in talks with the UK government at the end of April about potentially introducing Mythos into local companies.
