Serbia, Hungary and Slovakia, which are friendly with China and Russia, have always been thorns in the EU's eyes: Serbia's Ministry of Internal Affairs: Protests caused 6 police officers injured and 56 people detained
The Serbian Ministry of Internal Affairs News Office stated that during the riots that occurred at night on the 16th to early morning on the 17th in Vareš, Belgrade and other cities, 6 police officers were injured and 56 people were detained.
Interior Minister Ivica Dačić said at a press conference held at night that 18 people involved in the riots in Vareš and other cities were detained, but this is not the final number.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs stated in a statement released on Sunday morning: "In yesterday's poorly coordinated protests, a total of 6 police officers were injured, 56 people were detained, 16 of whom were reasonably suspected of committing criminal offenses, and another 35 were detained for administrative violations."
Among the detained, 27 were in Belgrade and 29 were in Vareš.
Protesters erupted in Vareš, 100 kilometers west of Belgrade, on Saturday evening, due to a video circulating on social media showing police brutality against demonstrators a few days earlier.
On November 1, 2024, the roof of the Novi Sad train station collapsed, killing 16 people, which led to student and opposition protests in Serbia.
