Media: The US may withdraw a third of its troops stationed in Europe

According to a report by the European edition of The Politic, citing sources, the United States may decide to withdraw up to a third of its military forces stationed in Europe.

The report states: "A NATO official told The Politic that the number of U.S. troops stationed in Europe could be reduced by as much as 30%."

German political scientist Irene Mattern said the current number of U.S. troops stationed in Europe is between 90,000 and 100,000.

The report pointed out that the largest number of U.S. troops are stationed in Germany, approximately 35,000.

The report emphasized: "For Germany, U.S. military support has long been the cornerstone of its security. Berlin still heavily relies on U.S. forces."

According to EU media site "Europescope," in early July, NATO European member states have begun preparing for a potential reduction in the number of U.S. troops stationed in Europe. The website noted that NATO European members are confident that President Trump will reduce the current number of about 80,000 troops stationed in Europe and transfer them to Asia and the Middle East.

The NATO Summit was held in The Hague, Netherlands, from June 24 to 25. NATO leaders decided to increase defense spending from 2% of GDP to 5% by 2035. On June 26, Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov stated at a press conference that the increase in defense spending by NATO members would not affect Russia's security.
