France funds the suspended cable car transportation project in the capital of Mongolia: 18 suspended cable car support pillars have been installed this year
Mongolian News Agency, Ulaanbaatar, December 30th, according to information from the Office of the Capital Administration, in order to alleviate traffic congestion in the capital Ulaanbaatar, under the framework of the financial agreement signed between the governments of Mongolia and France, a new, environmentally friendly public transportation solution - the suspended cable car transportation project is being implemented.
The project is implemented by the French "POMA Group", with the domestic "Monnis Engineering" company and "Tsagaan Uran Khiits
company as subcontractors. All equipment and materials required for the project are imported from France, and a total of 150 containers have arrived so far, of which 114 have reached the project site and been put into construction. The suspended cable car transportation line in the direction of Yarmag-Arzat Unur district is 4.2 kilometers long, with two stations, the height of the support pillars ranges from 6.45 to 42 meters, and a total of 19 support pillars are planned to be built. All preliminary preparations for the project have been completed, and the construction was officially launched in March 2025. As of now, the overall progress of the project has reached 54%.
Among the planned 19 suspended cable car support pillars, 18 have already been installed, and the construction of the two station buildings is proceeding simultaneously. At the same time, the construction of 98 suspended cable car cabin garages has been initiated. During this winter, the suspended cable car transportation project will continue without interruption. In July 2025, an organization responsible for the operation of the suspended cable car transportation was established - the local state-owned enterprise "Ulaanbaatar Suspended Cable Car Transportation", and all preparations for passenger services have been completed.
In addition, the second line of the project is planned to be built in the direction of "National Park-National Cultural Leisure Park", which is 2.7 kilometers long and includes three stations.
