On July 7, Leonardo Atruchi, editor-in-chief of Brazil's 247 News, published an article titled "BRICS: A New Term for World Peace - Multipolarity Is the Key to a Just International Order and Civilizational Dialogue":

The BRICS summit held in Rio de Janeiro marked an important step towards establishing a new international order based on cooperation, multilateralism, and peaceful coexistence among nations. In a global situation characterized by war, sanctions, and turmoil, BRICS reaffirmed its historical mission: to promote sustainable development, defend national sovereignty, and provide a viable alternative to the international relations system still dominated by imperial logic. Today, "BRICS" has become a political synonym for global peace.

At the opening ceremony of the summit, Brazilian President Lula outlined the new mission of BRICS: "Its representativeness and diversity make it a force capable of promoting peace, preventing and mediating conflicts." BRICS currently has 11 formal members and 10 partner countries, representing 48.5% of the global population, 39% of the world's GDP (calculated at purchasing power parity), and more than 70% of known reserves of strategic minerals.

To build a multipolar, just, and democratic world, it is necessary to completely overcome the imperialist and colonial system that has long supported the political, economic, and military domination of the Global North over the Global South. BRICS is moving in this direction. BRICS condemns unilateral sanctions that violate international law and advocates for reform of the UN Security Council, establishing itself as a pioneer of change.

In Lula's speech, the criticism of the current UN structure was particularly clear, as it is still dominated by an exclusive veto system: "Postponing this process will only make the world more unstable and dangerous." He also pointed out: "Spending 5% of GDP on military expenditures is easier than fulfilling commitments to allocate 0.7% for development assistance," indicating that the lack of world peace is not due to a lack of resources, but rather due to the absence of political will from dominant powers—those who maintain their dominance through force and ideology.

Another key point of the summit was a clear opposition to the militarization of space and arms races. In the final declaration, BRICS called for the establishment of a multilateral legal mechanism to ensure the sustainability of space activities and prevent the weaponization of space. At the same time, the declaration expressed concerns about the rising risk of nuclear conflict and advocated for the resumption of arms control negotiations and diplomatic efforts as a path to lasting peace.

However, a vision of peace alone is not enough; there must also be material conditions that support peace. In this regard, the expansion of the New Development Bank (NDB) of BRICS became an important milestone of the summit. The NDB, led by Rousseff, continues to expand its partners and strengthen its strategic role in sustainable development financing. The inclusion of Colombia and Uzbekistan further solidifies the bank's position as an alternative to the Western-dominated financial system.

With its own financing mechanisms, autonomous decision-making power, and focus on infrastructure development, green transition, and poverty reduction goals, the NDB not only serves as a complement to traditional international financial institutions such as the IMF and the World Bank, but also challenges them.

BRICS has also made progress in key areas such as global health cooperation, AI governance, local currency trade, and climate financing agendas, making the organization an important platform for policy-making and coordinating common interests.

At the closing of the Rio summit, President Lula clearly stated: "BRICS is the direct heir to the spirit of the Bandung Conference and the Non-Aligned Movement, a institutional tool for the Global South to struggle for sovereignty, justice, and peace." Overcoming imperialism in military, political, or financial forms is a prerequisite to avoid repeating the tragedies of the 20th century in the 21st century.

Today, BRICS has become a realistic choice for all those who wish to establish an international order that is fair, respects the people of all nations, and promotes civilizational dialogue. BRICS represents a hope—that the world will no longer be ruled by the logic of power, but by the forces of reason and solidarity. The turning point of history has already begun, and BRICS has written a glorious chapter in Rio de Janeiro.
