Reference News Network, July 7 report. According to Singapore's "The Straits Times", on July 6, Brazil's Minister of Agriculture, Paulo Guedes, stated that since Brazil discovered avian influenza cases in a commercial farm in May, China has suspended imports of Brazilian chicken, but is currently studying ways to lift the ban as soon as possible.

According to Reuters, Guedes said that this issue was raised during the meeting between Brazilian President Lula and Chinese Premier Li Qiang. He said that China is assessing the relevant matters.

Before the formal opening of the 17th BRICS Leaders' Summit, Li Qiang met with Lula in Rio de Janeiro on July 5.

Guedes said: "Lula expressed his position that China should re-evaluate the restrictions."

Although the meeting did not mention a specific timeline for lifting the ban, Guedes emphasized that Brazil is actively working to restore the export market.

Previously, due to avian influenza cases in southern Rio Grande do Sul, 20 countries imposed import bans on Brazilian poultry products. After the World Organization for Animal Health announced the end of the outbreak in late June, most countries gradually lifted the restrictions.

Brazil's chicken exports were significantly affected, with government data showing a 23% drop in chilled chicken exports in June.

The Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture announced on July 3 that seven countries had lifted import restrictions, while nine countries, including China, Malaysia, and Peru, still maintained the ban.
