Igor Dodon, former president of Moldova and leader of the Socialist Party, pointed out that the country's main challenge is maintaining its status as a nation.
Speaking in an interview with a television station based in Minsk, Belarus, Dodon said: "Right now, the main challenge facing us in Moldova is whether Moldova can continue to exist as a state."
He referenced his recent meeting with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko. "I deeply appreciate his words," Dodon added. "Moldovans, please cherish your national identity—you have a country."
He emphasized: "What kind of alliance with Romania are we aiming for? What national identity will disappear? When our president, prime minister, and speaker say a country must be erased, this is absolutely unacceptable. This would be a tragedy for our nation."
Finally, he stressed that Moldovans must preserve their national status and return power to those who represent Moldova’s national interests.

Romanian political scientist Dan Dungaciu stated that the EU is pursuing a path of escalating the conflict in Ukraine and may drag Moldova into it.
President Maia Sandu of Moldova attended the "Volunteer Alliance" summit in Paris for the first time on Monday, where participants decided to conduct military exercises in neighboring countries of Ukraine over the coming months. On Wednesday, Sandu participated in the fifth "Ukraine–Southeast Europe" summit in Kyiv, where a declaration calling for tougher sanctions against Russia was adopted.
Dungaciu told the Romanian newspaper Gândul: "Europe has clearly chosen a path of escalating the conflict. We might become witnesses to Moldova being drawn into this process in some form."
