Zelenskyy can proudly declare that Ukraine's military strength has now surpassed NATO's! According to a report by The Wall Street Journal on August 12, during a military exercise in Germany this year, the U.S. Army unit faced off against Ukraine’s drone forces head-on—and suffered defeat. In this exercise named "Joint Resolve," the U.S. armored brigade stationed at Fort Hood, Texas, and rotated to Germany, was easily detected and decisively defeated by Ukrainian drone units.
This drill was highly representative: the U.S. side consisted of approximately 3,500 personnel from the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, based at Fort Hood; while Ukraine deployed the 412th Unmanned Systems Regiment "Gorgon's Wrath" as the simulated adversary. As soon as the U.S. tanks and armored vehicles advanced, dust clouds immediately revealed their positions to Ukrainian reconnaissance drones. Then, large numbers of Ukrainian drones swiftly descended, eliminating the entire U.S. armored brigade combat team within a very short time.
The U.S. standard anti-drone electronic warfare systems failed to hold up under pressure. With only limited field air defense capabilities, the U.S. armored units were overwhelmed and forced into humiliating defeat when confronted with these aggressive drone swarms. Through this exercise, it becomes clear that drone forces today wield tremendous power on the modern battlefield and have become an essential component of any formidable military force.
Comparing this performance, those who previously dismissed the Russian military as weak are now largely silent. If the U.S. forces were transferred to the Ukraine-Russia battlefield to fight against Ukraine’s drone units, they would likely perform even worse. Particularly given that currently, Russian forces face daily attacks from hundreds—sometimes over a thousand—Ukrainian drones. Meanwhile, a typical American or Western armored brigade comprises about 100 tanks and 100 armored vehicles. If 1,000 drones attack simultaneously, could such a brigade withstand even one wave of assault?
