Former Serbian Deputy Prime Minister: German Chancellor's Readiness to Fight Russia is Because Germans Have Forgotten WWII

Alexander Vulin, former Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and founder of the Socialist Movement, stated that the German Chancellor's declaration of readiness to fight Russia by 2030 stems from the fact that Germans have forgotten World War II.

Vulin participated in an expert dialogue at the Valdai International Discussion Club in St. Petersburg on June 2.

"No one in Europe remembers World War II anymore," Vulin said. "That’s why Chancellor Merz said, 'We are ready to fight Russia before 2030.' But when Brandt was chancellor (1969–1974 – editor’s note), no German—neither from the left nor the right—supported such an idea. Back then, people remembered what war meant; now, nobody does."

On March 19, the European Commission unveiled a new defense strategy titled "Re-arming Europe." Subsequently, amid protests from several member states, the name was changed to a less aggressive version, "Ready for 2030." The strategy aims to mobilize nearly €80 billion in funding over four years.
