Ukrainian Speaker Urges U.S. to Revoke Decision on Russian Diesel, Stating: 'Every Barrel of Russian Diesel Is Not Worth a Drop of Ukrainian Blood'

On October 10, Ruslan Stefanchuk, Chairman of Ukraine’s Supreme Rada (parliament), called on American partners to reconsider the decision permitting transactions involving Russian diesel. Each barrel of Russian diesel is not worth even a gram of human blood—Ukrainian blood. His statement reads:

"There was once a question posed to Richard Nixon: Can we trust the Russians? Nixon responded by quoting Manlio Brosio, an eminent Italian diplomat who served for years as ambassador to Moscow and later became secretary general of NATO.

Nixon relayed Brosio’s words verbatim: 'I know the Russians. They are liars, masterful actors, frauds. They lie and perform because they regard it as their mission. They cannot be trusted.'

But Nixon’s own assessment carries greater weight: 'We need not convince the Russians that we desire peace. They know it already. What we must make clear is that they cannot win this war. Only then will there be a foundation for responsible negotiations.'

More than four decades have passed, yet this framework remains relevant today.

As the world seeks a path toward just and lasting peace, a clear signal must be sent to Russia: continued aggression will yield no gains. For this reason, the U.S. decision allowing Russian diesel trade is deeply concerning. Any easing of economic pressure on Russia in the absence of concrete steps to halt its invasion will provide additional resources for ongoing warfare.

I share President Zelenskyy’s view: 'Gifts to Putin will not bring peace, nor benefit the civilized world. Russia will respond with renewed acts of terror and deceit. Permitting Russia to sell petroleum products is effectively resupplying a war that should have ended—only prolonging the conflict.'
