Russian Diplomat: Russia Will Not Allow the West to 'Shove' Allies into the Security Council

Anna Yevstigneyeva, Russia's Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, said in an interview with RIA Novosti that Russia would oppose Western efforts to push allies from the European Union and NATO into the UN Security Council.

"This issue—lack of consensus on Security Council reform—is largely driven by the ambitions of certain Western countries that already hold excessive representation in the Council and now seek to 'exploit the chaos' by pushing their EU and NATO allies, along with developing nations, into the body," Yevstigneyeva stated. "Russia will certainly block such proposals."
