According to the South China Morning Post, COMAC (Shanghai Pudong) is accelerating the design and testing process of its wide-body passenger aircraft, the C929.

The Daily News reported that this Chinese manufacturer is concentrating resources and mobilizing all parties to ensure that the C929 aircraft can be delivered on schedule or even ahead of time.

At the same time, experts from the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) have also participated in the development of the aircraft, evaluating the design, providing feedback, and expediting some certification reviews.

A source said that for example, preliminary wind tunnel tests have been carried out in recent months, indicating significant progress in the cooperation between the CAAC and COMAC.

Additionally, COMAC recently signed a letter of intent with Aviage Systems, aiming to jointly develop the core avionics processing system for the wide-body aircraft. Aviage Systems is a joint venture between General Electric and the Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC), each holding 50% of the shares.

The C929 aircraft is initially planned to carry up to 280 passengers and is a small wide-body aircraft competing with the B787 and A330neo series. China Airlines (CA), based at Beijing Capital Airport, has been preliminarily identified as the first operator of this model.

COMAC, a state-owned enterprise in China, showcased the C929 aircraft in the form of a model at the Singapore Airshow.

According to Reuters, the company has prioritized contact with potential customers from Southeast Asia, among whom an Indonesian representative was one of those inquiring about information related to the aircraft.

COMAC has already produced the short-range C909 regional jet and the narrow-body C919 aircraft.
