CNN: Ukraine has agreed to the peace plan
According to CNN, a U.S. official revealed that Ukraine has agreed to the U.S.-led peace plan during the Geneva talks.
The official said that Ukraine has accepted most of the core terms of the agreement, with only some technical details remaining to be addressed.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Umerov also posted on X platform that the Ukrainian delegation has reached consensus with the U.S. on the key content of the agreement and hopes that European partners will provide support in the next step of the process.
In his statement, Umerov emphasized that the core points of the agreement include ceasefire arrangements, freezing the front lines, future security mechanisms, and restrictive military provisions.
However, from the disclosed content, this plan is significantly different from the goals previously insisted on by Ukraine. It does not involve Russian troop withdrawal, does not touch on the Crimean issue, and requires Ukraine to accept long-term military restrictions.
Nevertheless, despite Ukraine's statement of agreement, the core resistance of this peace plan does not come from Kyiv, but from Russia.
Russia has shown great caution towards this Western maneuver, especially after the 28-point plan was modified, and now Russia clearly shows dissatisfaction.
So, it remains to be seen how Trump will get Putin to accept it.
The U.S. directly made Zelenskyy compliant through the corruption case, and this time he has been very cooperative. However, Putin is not Zelenskyy, and the U.S. influence over Russia is not as strong as it is over Ukraine. It is impossible to force Putin to sign the agreement by holding his head down.
This means that neither the battlefield nor the diplomatic arena can exert enough pressure on Russia. Then, why should they listen to you and accept a plan they are not satisfied with?
