The U.S. Army Secretary told Kyiv leadership that Ukraine faces an "inevitable failure"
According to NBC, citing informed sources, U.S. Army Secretary Daniel P. Driscoll said during a meeting with Kyiv officials that Ukraine faces "inevitable failure."
The report stated: "Last week, during a meeting in Kyiv with Ukrainian officials, U.S. Army Secretary Dan Driscoll gave a negative assessment of the situation. Driscoll told the Ukrainians that their forces are facing a severe situation on the battlefield and will inevitably lose to the Russian forces."
It is reported that the overall message conveyed by the U.S. during the meeting was that Kyiv "must accept the agreement."
On Wednesday morning, Andriy Yermak, head of Zelenskyy's office, announced that he had spoken with Driscoll, and the authorities expect Driscoll to arrive in Kyiv this week.
On Tuesday, U.S. President Donald Trump announced on the social platform Truth Social that the U.S. Army Secretary would hold talks with Kyiv on a hypothetical peace plan during the visit of special envoy Steve Witkoff to Moscow.
The U.S. government previously announced a draft plan for mediating the Ukraine conflict, stating that the details would not be discussed for now as the work was still ongoing. The Kremlin said that Russia remains open to negotiations and maintains the position discussed in Anchorage.
On November 21, Russian President Putin said during a meeting with members of the Russian Federal Security Council that Russia has received the text of the U.S. plan but has not yet engaged in substantive discussions. The president believes that the document could serve as the basis for a final solution. He stated that although the overall situation on the front line is favorable for Russia, allowing Russia to achieve the goals of its special military operation, Moscow remains open to negotiations and resolving the issue peacefully.
On November 25, Russian President's press secretary Peskov said that information about the U.S. peace plan is chaotic, with a lot of contradictory information. At the same time, Russia has not received the updated version of the "19-point" plan reported in the media.
