Thailand's Ministry of Foreign Affairs protests Cambodia for planting landmines within its territory!

Around 7 p.m. on July 20, Nikorndej Prankura, Director of the Department of Information and Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, issued a statement protesting Cambodia for planting landmines in Ubon Ratchathani Province. On the afternoon of July 16, three Thai soldiers were injured when they stepped on a landmine during a patrol.

The Thai government received a report from the security agency, and after an investigation by the relevant agencies, it was found that the landmine had not been used and had never existed in the Thai weapons inventory. Therefore, it was confirmed that these landmines were newly placed by the neighboring country, which seriously violated international law.

The Thai government strongly condemned Cambodia's use of landmines, which violated Thailand's sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as the basic principles of international law stipulated in the UN Charter. This clearly violated the obligations under the Convention on Prohibiting Anti-Personnel Mines. As a state party to the convention, Thailand will continue to resolve this issue with Cambodia through existing bilateral mechanisms. According to the situation agreed upon by both prime ministers within the bilateral framework, cooperation will be carried out to clear landmines along the border line.

In addition, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand called on the public to trust the actions of the government and security agencies, because the unity of the nation is currently the most important.
