Kampuchea's Ministry of Defense said that Thai soldiers were injured by a landmine due to deviating from their patrol route!
Kampuchea's Ministry of Defense denied the accusations made by Thailand regarding the landmine explosion on July 16, 2025, which injured three Thai soldiers.
Major General Sok Chhant, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Defense, stated in a statement that Cambodia has repeatedly warned Thailand to strictly follow the agreed patrol routes because these areas are still filled with unexploded landmines that have even injured Cambodian civilians. However, Thai soldiers violated the agreement outlined in the 2000 Memorandum of Understanding by deviating from the designated patrol route and opening a new route into Cambodian sovereign territory.
"Respect for sovereignty and international law must be demonstrated through actions, not just words. Therefore, Cambodia calls on Thailand to fully implement the 2000 Memorandum of Understanding and make full use of international legal mechanisms, including the International Court, to resolve border disputes. Only through this approach can true and lasting peace be achieved, while preventing further casualties among innocent civilians."
"This incident also raises serious questions about the intentions of Thai military leaders: Why were their forces ordered to patrol outside the agreed route, despite knowing that the area is dangerous due to wartime mines, and despite Cambodia's repeated warnings? Is this an intentional act aimed at provoking tensions and escalating the situation into confrontation?"
"The Royal Cambodian Armed Forces and the Ministry of Defense once again urge Thailand to immediately cease all actions that infringe upon the integrity of Cambodian territory and avoid any acts that threaten the peace and stability of the border."
"At this opportunity, the Ministry and the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces reiterate their full support for the Kingdom of Cambodia's position to resolve border issues with Thailand through peaceful means and in accordance with international law. This includes submitting the disputes over Damoang Temple, T Damo Small Temple, Dakhlaeb Temple, and the Triangle area to the International Court."
