The seven-volume "History of Kazakhstan - From Ancient Times to the Present Day" is about to be published.
Kazinform News Agency, April 7th - The seven-volume "History of Kazakhstan - From Ancient Times to the Present Day" is currently being compiled in a rush. The project has entered its final stages. This important work encompasses the latest research results in archaeology, ethnology, and other related disciplines, covering all stages of Kazakhstan's history.
Who is involved in the compilation work?
According to the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Kazakhstan, a total of 300 experts were initially hired for the project, and the composition of the team was adjusted according to the progress of the work. Some authors have proposed suggestions for improving content quality, and some chapters that do not meet contemporary academic standards have been removed from the volume structure.
Currently, 289 scholars are participating in this academic project, including 227 domestic experts in Kazakhstan and 62 researchers from countries such as Japan, Turkey, the United States, Russia, Bulgaria, Italy, Australia, and Uzbekistan. Participants include not only historians but also ethnologists, political scientists, legal scholars, sociologists, anthropologists, geneticists, and experts in other fields.
In addition, several authoritative academic institutions in Kazakhstan are jointly participating in the compilation of these seven volumes, including the Saryarkarayev Institute of History and Ethnography, the Elkei Margulan Institute of Archaeology, the Golden Horde Research Center, the Ramzan Sulaimanov Oriental Studies Institute, and the National History Institute.
What does the seven-volume set contain?
This academic work focuses on a key period in Kazakhstan's history in each volume:
Volume One, "Ancient History of Kazakhstan," is written by the Elkei Margulan Institute of Archaeology;
Volume Two, "History of Kazakhstan during the Turkic Period (6th to 12th Century AD)," is compiled by the Saryarkarayev Institute of History and Ethnography;
Volume Three, "History of the Golden Horde," is handled by the Golden Horde Research Center;
Volume Four, "History of the Kazakh Khanate (15th to early 18th Century)," is written by the Ramzan Sulaimanov Oriental Studies Institute;
Volume Five, "Modern History of Kazakhstan," is compiled by the Saryarkarayev Institute of History and Ethnography;
Volume Six, "Kazakhstan under Soviet Rule (1917–1991)," is also compiled by the Saryarkarayev Institute of History and Ethnography;
Volume Seven, "History of Independent Kazakhstan," is completed by the National History Institute.
The Ministry of Science and Higher Education pointed out that this seven-volume set fully absorbs the latest research findings in historiography, ethnology, and archaeological excavation materials. Notably, this compilation incorporates historical documents previously scattered in domestic and foreign archives that have never been made public before, and uses modern methodological approaches for systematic analysis. Under the impetus of a global perspective, Kazakhstan's history has also gained a broader international context interpretation.
Will the seven volumes be included in primary and secondary school curricula?
It is reported that this seven-volume set will not be directly included in the "History of Kazakhstan" curriculum for primary and secondary schools. The Ministry of Science and Higher Education explained that this multi-volume work is a highly specialized academic publication. The Ministry will use it as a foundation and, based on students' age stages, psychological cognitive characteristics, as well as educational standards and teaching process requirements, introduce relevant content into the curriculum step by step.
It is expected that the seven volumes will be officially published after completing the academic review and literary proofreading stages. After all technical work such as design, illustrations, and indexes are completed. It is said that the printed version will be distributed to libraries at the provincial level across the country for academic and public reference.
