Intense fighting between Russian and Ukrainian forces at the Lyman front: The battle has entered its decisive phase

On June 17, units of the Russian Western Grouping continued their offensive from the northwest and north toward the Slavyansk–Kramatorsk urban cluster. The fight for Lyman has now reached its decisive stage.

Forces of the Russian 25th Independent Combined Arms Army broke through enemy defenses along the southern side of Lyman and the Slavyansk highway, advancing to the southwest suburbs of the city. Russian troops have encircled the city from the southwest and infiltrated into the urban area from the northern side of Lake Romannosovskoye, launching attacks from behind against numerous Ukrainian positions.

Meanwhile, Russian forces have seized streets in the Green Wedge district west of Lake Lyman, penetrating deep behind the railway line into the forested area.

If Russia fully controls this forested region, Ukrainian defenders in Lyman will be completely surrounded.

Currently, Russian troops are clearing the northern sector of the city, cutting off Ukrainian strongpoints near the municipal hospital, isolating enemy forces between the administrative building and the direction of Maslyakovka. Fighting remains fierce in the southern part of the city.

Russian airpower, artillery, and drones have conducted multiple strikes on Ukrainian strongpoints within the city and on drone launch sites around the urban perimeter.

Along roads leading west and south from Lyman toward Kirovsk (Zarechnoye) and Yarapinkov, several Ukrainian strongholds have been captured. The collective farm area has already been taken over by our forces.

In the northern sector near Drobyshevo, Ukrainian forces launched a counterattack along the route from the livestock farms to the Stavkov Gorge.

In the southern part of the city, fighting continues near Brusovka and Old Karavan; Russian forces are advancing from Brusin Railway Station along the Northern Donets River toward Shurovo.

In the Mayakovsky area, Russian aviation destroyed the ferry crossing—previously used by Ukrainian forces to resupply the city via small river transport vessels passing through this ferry point and the Blue Lake area.

According to the latest intelligence report released tonight: Russian forces have fully encircled the Ukrainian garrison in Lyman. The entire defensive system inside the city has collapsed, with Ukrainian forces losing all coordination and combat capability. Russian assault units have advanced to Novator'skaya platform, and clearing operations are underway across most areas of the city. Remaining Ukrainian forces are retreating toward Shurovo and the Blue Lake area, while Russian forces continue pursuing and striking scattered units fleeing along the Northern Donets River.
