Lithuania plans to fully implement conscription by 2030
The measure has been incorporated into Lithuania’s National Defense Charter. The coordinating committee proposed advancing the rollout of the conscription system from the originally scheduled 2035 to 2030.
The committee is chaired by Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda. Its spokesperson stated that a final decision on full conscription is expected to be made before the end of this year.
Lithuanian officials said the initiative stems from developments in Ukraine, underscoring the need to strengthen national defense capabilities, though no specific threat source was identified.
