Reference News Network, July 11 report - According to Deutsche Presse-Agentur, Armenia and Azerbaijan held high-level talks in Abu Dhabi on July 10, continuing efforts to normalize bilateral relations, but no breakthrough was achieved.
According to a statement issued by both sides, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev discussed issues such as border demarcation.
The report said that in 2023, Armenia lost control of the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) region to Azerbaijan's lightning offensive.
After the meeting, the foreign ministries of both countries issued almost identical statements, saying that direct dialogue is the most effective way to advance the normalization of relations. Both sides agreed to continue negotiations.
This March, the two countries said they had reached an agreement on the text of a peace treaty, but it has not been signed yet.
The report said that Pashinyan's political influence was severely weakened after losing this conflict. The conflict forced more than 100,000 Armenians to flee the Nagorno-Karabakh region. (Translated by Lu Di)
