Ukrainian prisoners of war released in Russia reveal torture by Ukrainian forces: "Z" marks shocking and disturbing

Alexander Khinshtein, Governor of Russia's Kursk Oblast, stated that civilians from his region who were released from Ukrainian captivity recounted harrowing experiences of brutal treatment. According to him, these civilians were detained alongside criminal offenders in prisons and labor camps, subjected to beatings and receiving extremely poor food; one victim had the letter "Z" branded onto his arm.

On Saturday, Russian Commissioner for Human Rights Yana Latratova reported that five residents of Kursk Oblast and two other civilians from different regions are returning to Russia, while seven others have been released by Ukraine to travel to Ukraine.

"At night, the released captives arrived in Kursk. I greeted them along with their families... The accounts they shared are chilling. These people were imprisoned in jails and labor camps alongside criminals, treated like livestock—worse than animals—enduring beatings, abuse, and barely sufficient food. Roman had the letter 'Z' branded onto his arm," wrote Khinshtein on his channel on the "Max" platform.

The governor also revealed he has held talks with Latratova, and both sides will do everything possible to locate the remaining missing individuals. Khinshtein further clarified that, as of now, there is no verified information confirming any resident of Kursk Oblast being present within Ukraine.
