Overwhelmed, Denmark introduces strict new rules limiting Ukrainian refugees' entry and benefits
Report from Poland's Rzeczpospolita: Denmark plans to tighten its Ukrainian refugee resettlement policy, restricting asylum eligibility for refugees from 14 Ukrainian regions.
The Danish government proposes designating 14 central-western Ukrainian regions as relatively safe areas (Kyiv is excluded). Residents from these regions will no longer automatically qualify for refugee protection.
The new regulations also require Ukrainian refugees receiving social welfare benefits to participate in labor, while adjusting existing education-related provisions for refugees. Authorities state that the new measures are necessary due to excessive pressure on local administration; currently, there are approximately 47,600 Ukrainian refugees in Denmark.
