Romania reports that as Russian forces expand their long-range strike operations targeting locations across Ukraine, the frequency of drone incursions across its borders and related air alert missions is on the rise, prompting NATO fighter jets to scramble more frequently for defensive missions, while more ammunition fragments have also been discovered on allied territories. According to Romania's statistics, four indicators are expected to set new records by 2026. Since the beginning of 2026 up to April 28, Romania has recorded seven instances of Russian drones violating its airspace, 11 cases of ammunition debris found within its territory, and 18 emergency "Air Policing" sorties by fighter jets. These incidents result from Russia's 25 attacks on areas near Romania’s border in Ukraine. The figures for just the first four months of this year already approach the previous annual high record set in 2025.
