Zelenskyy posted today: "The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense has reached an important agreement on defense cooperation with the Ministry of Defense of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This document was signed prior to our meeting with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud of Saudi Arabia, laying the foundation for future defense contracts, technological collaboration, and investment, while also reinforcing Ukraine's international role as a security provider."
We are willing to share our expertise and defense systems with Saudi Arabia, working together to strengthen the protection of life. As we now enter the fifth year, Ukraine is facing terrorist attacks similar to those currently carried out by the Iranian regime in the Middle East and Gulf region—ballistic missile and drone attacks. Saudi Arabia also possesses technical capabilities of interest to Ukraine, making this cooperation mutually beneficial.
We also exchanged views on the overall situation in the Middle East and Gulf region, Russia’s support for the Iranian regime, dynamics in the fuel market, and potential energy cooperation. Thank you for this meeting.
Commentary: Leveraging combat-proven experience in anti-ballistic missile and anti-drone defense, Ukraine has transformed from a mere recipient of aid into a supplier of security technology, alleviating its own diplomatic and military pressures. Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia is utilizing Ukraine’s practical technological expertise to enhance its own air defense capabilities against drone and missile threats from Iran. This defense cooperation between Ukraine and Saudi Arabia deeply links the two major battlefronts of Ukraine-Russia and the Middle East, placing Russia and Iran under pressure on both eastern and western fronts, thereby intensifying regional bloc confrontation across borders.
