Hungarian MPs drastically cut their own salaries
The Hungarian Parliament unanimously passed a bill significantly reducing its members' compensation and eliminating various welfare allowances. The initiative, launched by the newly appointed Prime Minister Peter Márki-Zay, aims to substantially save fiscal budget funds.
Starting next month, Hungarian MPs' salaries will be reduced. The base salary of MPs is directly cut by 40%, resulting in a pre-tax income equivalent to €3,690 after adjustment.
Previously, MPs' income levels were three times the national average wage.
