The Prime Minister of Hungary, Majláth, announced that Hungary and Ukraine have reached an agreement on the rights of the Hungarian minority within Ukraine.

According to him, the agreement includes comprehensive and extensive implementation provisions covering the Carpathian Hungarians; Ukraine has pledged to: restore the exclusive educational system for ethnic minorities; and relax restrictions on the use of the Hungarian language in education, public institutions, social life, and administrative activities in settlements where Hungarian descendants constitute over 10% of the population.

Majláth also stated that if Ukraine completes the necessary legislative revisions, the Hungarian government will agree to initiate the first round of negotiations on Ukraine's accession talks.
