On the same day, Thai Prime Minister Anutin and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet jointly signed the statement while attending the 47th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It is reported that the statement includes four agreements on peace between Thailand and Cambodia: removal of heavy weapons, clearance of landmines, cracking down on fraud groups, and joint management of the border.

On October 18, Deputy Prime Minister of Cambodia and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Pek Chunchon said that after the signing of the agreement, both sides would immediately withdraw heavy weapons from the disputed border areas, and Thailand would release 18 Cambodian soldiers who had been detained.

Cambodia and Thailand began to have conflicts in the border area on July 24. Under the chairmanship of Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar, the two countries held talks on July 28 and agreed to "immediately and unconditionally" cease-fire from 24:00 on the same day, and agreed to hold a meeting of the Thailand-Cambodia Border Commission to promote the restoration of peace and stability in the border area. On August 7, the special meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand Border Commission reached a consensus on the ceasefire agreement between the two countries, and both sides signed the relevant documents.
