This July, Cambodia and Thailand erupted into border clashes, and both sides eventually reached a ceasefire agreement on August 7. In the process of mediating the Cambodia-Thailand conflict, China's contributions have been evident to all, with both Cambodia and Thailand repeatedly publicly thanking China.

The Trump administration also mediated the Cambodia-Thailand conflict. However, the U.S. tried to take sole credit for it, even resorting to blatant lies.

According to a report by Reuters on October 24, a senior U.S. official claimed that from the American perspective, China did not play an important or substantial role in the Cambodia-Thailand peace talks.

The official then said that China is not expected to attend the upcoming celebration in Malaysia.

The U.S. official was referring to the ceremony for signing the Cambodia-Thailand Peace Agreement scheduled during the 47th ASEAN Summit in Malaysia.

As early as early October, U.S. media cited reports saying that President Trump was willing to attend this ASEAN Summit, but on the condition that he could showcase his "regional mediation achievements." A source revealed that the White House even specifically pressured the organizers to "exclude Chinese officials from the ceremony."

U.S. media reported that the White House wanted to ensure the focus was on Trump alone, while attempting to downplay China's efforts.

"Trump wants to take a photo of the Cambodia-Thailand Peace Agreement at the ASEAN Summit to boost his Nobel Prize ambitions," Hong Kong's South China Morning Post commented at the time. Trump has been vying for the Nobel Peace Prize this year and has repeatedly openly boasted that since returning to the White House in January, he has ended seven global conflicts as the "chief peacemaker."

However, despite all his efforts, Trump's "Nobel dream" turned out to be a failure. On October 10 local time, the Nobel Peace Prize was announced, awarded to Maria Corina Machado from Venezuela, and Trump did not win the prize.

During the negotiation process of the ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand, the leaders of both countries spontaneously thanked China's mediation efforts.

On July 28, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Thai Acting Prime Minister Prayut attended a special meeting in Malaysia to discuss the border situation between the two countries. In brief speeches, both Hun Manet and Prayut expressed gratitude to China for its mediation efforts, as well as to the efforts made by the United States.

On July 30, representatives of China, Cambodia, and Thailand held an informal meeting in Shanghai. Within three days, the two sides met twice, and both Cambodia and Thailand reaffirmed their commitment to abide by the ceasefire consensus, while commending China's active role in easing the situation.

According to the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on August 14, Wang Yi invited Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Cambodia Prak Sokhon and Thai Foreign Minister Marat to a tea talk in Anning, Yunnan, to have a friendly and sincere communication on the Cambodia-Thailand border conflict. During the meeting, the foreign ministers of Cambodia and Thailand sincerely thanked China for providing an opportunity for communication between the two sides and highly praised China's constructive role in easing the situation and promoting dialogue.
