Thailand does not have high expectations for the Thai-Cambodian Peace Agreement signed by the US President!
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand issued a statement saying that Thailand and Cambodia will sign a peace declaration on October 26, 2025 at noon in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and Prime Minister Anutin will attend in person.
The Thai side stated that this event is not a major turning point, because before this meeting, Thailand and Cambodia held meetings of the Joint Boundary Commission and the General Boundary Commission to discuss the agreement. The Thai side proposed four measures to Cambodia, including withdrawal of heavy weapons, demining, cracking down on call centers, and border rectification. These four measures have already been implemented, so the agreement signed on October 26 is not something new, but merely a reaffirmation of the original agreement. Moreover, violations of the agreement have already occurred before signing the agreement.
When asked whether signing the agreement would lead to the restoration of relations between Thailand and Cambodia, a spokesperson for the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that he considered it a good start, but everything must be put into practice first.
