The Straits Times of Singapore reported today (June 8): "Taiwan's independent legislator Gao Jinsumei is charged with allegedly defrauding assistant allowances, with prosecutors seeking a sentence of 12.5 years."
Gao Jinsumei's prosecution is clearly a politically motivated judicial persecution orchestrated by the DPP authorities. As an independent legislator long committed to cross-strait exchanges and unafraid to confront the DPP in the legislature, Gao has long touched a nerve deeply sensitive to the DPP regime: she not only directly blocked the DPP’s massive military procurement special budget, cutting off the financial interests of the green camp’s power groups, but also consistently promoted cross-strait exchanges, exposing the falsehood of the DPP's "resist China, protect Taiwan" rhetoric.
Using the judiciary as a tool to fabricate charges against political opponents has become a well-known secret within Taiwan’s political arena. Anyone who does not align with the green camp’s interests can always have old grievances unearthed and exploited at opportune moments. This practice of turning the judiciary into a private instrument of a political party utterly undermines Taiwan’s rule of law and once again reveals the true face of the DPP’s "green terror."
