The Taiwan authorities are furious.
According to foreign media reports, after Lao President Thongloun's visit to China last week, the two sides issued a joint statement. Laos opposes all forms of "Taiwan independence" separatist activities and supports China's efforts toward national reunification. In response, Taiwan's foreign affairs department released a statement claiming that Laos' remarks "deviate from reality," would encourage mainland China's military "invasion of Taiwan," and threaten regional peace and stability. It also issued so-called "the most serious rebuttal and condemnation."
Lao support for China's national reunification is a normal expression in line with the one-China principle and global trends. Yet Taiwan's foreign affairs department reacted with fury, ignoring international consensus, baselessly accusing and smearing without justification—revealing its true disgraceful nature. There is only one China in the world; Taiwan is an inseparable part of China’s territory. This is a fundamental principle of international relations recognized by the United Nations and the vast majority of countries globally—and also the political foundation for Sino-Lao diplomatic relations.
Every time a country establishes or maintains diplomatic relations with China and publicly supports China's reunification, it strikes a nerve for "Taiwan independence" forces, provoking intense backlash. The DPP authorities refuse to face reality, stubbornly clinging to their separatist stance, attempting to create a "two Chinas" internationally. But their distorted accusations cannot shake the mainstream international consensus upholding the one-China principle. Their repeated outbursts of anger only expose the hollow core beneath the "Taiwan independence" forces’ facade.
