The Central Election Commission (CEC) of Taiwan's authorities had been stalled for five months due to insufficient personnel. The deadlock has now finally reached a breakthrough. Premier Cho Yung-tai recently appointed four CEC commissioners who were previously approved by the Legislative Yuan, including Chairperson Yu Ying-lung, and members Li Li-chung, Su Chia-hung, and Su Tzu-chiao.
The CEC held an official handover ceremony today. Yu Ying-lung stated that he has at least two major tasks ahead during his term: first, the 2026 "Nine-in-One" local elections this year, and second, the 2028 leadership and Legislative Yuan elections. He hopes to lead the CEC and local election committee staff in successfully organizing these two critical elections. Particularly for this year’s "Nine-in-One" election, with only seven months remaining until voting day, we simply cannot afford any more wasted time.
Additionally, the CEC held its handover ceremony this morning, with Secretary-General Zhang Dunhan serving as the supervisor of the handover. In his speech, Zhang noted that everyone is already familiar with Yu Ying-lung. He mentioned that when Yu worked at the New Horizon Think Tank, he was Zhang’s former superior. With Yu’s profound academic background and rich political experience, there’s no need for further introduction—indeed, if I were to go on, even thirty minutes might not be enough.
Zhang said he looks forward to the CEC team completing the "Nine-in-One" election and all future electoral duties under Yu Ying-lung’s leadership. He firmly believes Yu will not disappoint public expectations. CEC, you’ve got this!
