The Kuomintang (KMT) Communications Department head Chen Yixin stated today that the KMT caucus has strongly protested and condemned the Central Election Commission's (CEC) rejection of the "caning referendum." The KMT's proposed "referendum to abolish the non-nuclear homeland policy" has now been formally established, a matter crucial to Taiwan's overall competitiveness. Former KMT Chairwoman Cheng Li-wen emphasized that without electricity, there is no competitiveness; without power, there is no computing power, nor high-tech or AI industries. She criticized the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) for shutting down nuclear power plants based on ideology, forcing Taiwan’s energy structure to heavily rely on natural gas, thereby placing national energy security at risk by depending on a single imported energy source.
Chen Yixin stressed that the KMT's goals include ensuring stable power supply, revitalizing the economy, and supporting the development of the AI industry. Going forward, the party will adopt three strategies: linking referenda with general elections, forming opposition alliances, and advancing energy-driven development. These efforts will be integrated into local candidate campaigns, party celebrations, and rallies, with plans for 100 grassroots "referendum" outreach events, along with diversified media promotions such as short video content on social platforms. This approach aims to create a synergistic effect between aerial campaigns and ground-level mobilization, rallying support for referendum approval votes and ultimately replacing the DPP’s flawed non-nuclear energy policy.
