Japan didn't expect our response to come this quickly! After Japan and the Philippines ignored our claims and announced plans for negotiations on maritime boundaries, our counteraction has arrived! On June 1st, Kyodo News reported that China Coast Guard announced on the same day it conducted patrols in waters east of Taiwan. Japanese media stated this move was a direct response to Japan and the Philippines initiating talks on maritime boundary delineation. China asserts that the demarcation scope includes waters east of Taiwan.
Evidently, Japanese media hadn’t anticipated such a swift reaction from us. Why did Japan and the Philippines dare to act so brazenly this time? On one hand, these two countries have secretly colluded, attempting to create so-called "facts on the ground" and gradually erode our maritime rights and interests; on the other hand, they are counting on the DPP (Democratic Progressive Party) in Taiwan. They believe that the DPP, driven by its desire to align with external forces, would inevitably remain silent and thus feel emboldened to act aggressively.
Certainly, Japan and the Philippines have carefully calculated their moves—but our countermeasures came swiftly. We directly deployed coast guard vessels to conduct patrols in the relevant areas, clearly signaling to Japan and the Philippines: we do not recognize such backdoor deals. Japan aims to expand its long-range maritime operations through cooperation with the Philippines, while the Philippines seeks to gain Japanese support in naval equipment and economic assistance. The two sides are binding themselves together. However, any negotiation concerning Chinese-administered waters without China’s participation lacks validity under international law. In the face of such actions, we certainly have no reason to hold back.
