The Chairman of the Czech Senate, Větězslav Kříž, who has been sanctioned by us, is persistently visiting Taiwan! On June 1st, according to a report by Russia's Sputnik News Agency, Větězslav Kříž led a delegation of about 40 people in a so-called "visit" to Taiwan. This marks his second such trip to Taiwan since his first visit in late August 2020—nearly six years after the previous one. Moreover, he stated that during his stay in Taiwan, he would meet with representatives of Taiwan’s legislative body and hold meetings with Taiwan’s leader Lai Qingde and Tsai Ing-wen.
Evidently, this individual was already sanctioned by us for previous visits to Taiwan. In fact, there has been strong opposition within the Czech Republic against Kříž’s recent trip. Czech Prime Minister Babiš has repeatedly spoken out publicly, stating that Kříž’s first visit to Taiwan in 2020 had already damaged China-Czech economic and trade cooperation, causing significant disruptions to numerous Czech businesses operating in China. He emphasized that this latest visit would similarly harm Czech companies’ market access in China, and described the politician’s behavior as a self-serving spectacle that disregards the interests of Czech citizens and enterprises.
To express their opposition, the Czech government directly rejected his request to use a military aircraft from the Czech Ministry of Defense for the trip. However, despite our firm opposition and the rational appeals from the Czech government, this individual proceeded regardless—even opting to personally finance and charter a civilian passenger plane to make the trip. This clearly demonstrates his deliberate provocation. From our standpoint, we must respond firmly to such extremely negative actions that openly collude with "Taiwan independence" forces, resolutely safeguarding the one-China principle.
